How I work

Counselling with me offers you a chance to slow down, to talk openly and to explore your emotions. I work in a calm, empathetic way, listening with compassion rather than judgment so that you can begin to make sense of what you are experiencing.

I am trauma informed, and draw on my training in person centred, psychoanalytical, Gestalt and CBT techniques throughout counselling. Sometimes, to understand what’s happening today, it’s useful to explore the past and the impact your experiences have had on who you are now. At other times it might feel important to stay in the here and now and learn some straight forward strategies to use when things are feeling tough.

Some clients just love to talk about their emotions, knowing they are really being heard, others find it hard to even know what they are feeling. This is where creative techniques can be great. I use stones, Russian dolls, doodling, prompt cards and many other creative tools to open up new areas and themes which will enable you to explore what is happening for you.

I adapt how I work according to what each client brings. However you want to work, whatever your focus is, I will be there alongside you to support you as you move towards a greater sense of clarity and calm.

Even the helpless victim of a hopeless situation, facing a fate he cannot change, may rise above himself, may grow beyond himself, and by so doing change himself -
